Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming in just under a month. Yeah, that’s real. Pinch yourself if you need to… or check out the new launch trailer that Rockstar just dropped if you need confirmation that you’re not dreaming. Much less painful that way.
This new trailer focuses on dual protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and gives us more insight into their backstories and bond than we’ve had up to this point. Yes, we’ve known for a while that the relationship between Jason and Lucia is a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style crime romance, but we have a little better sense now for what’s motivating the two.

The basic setup is this, taken from the trailer description:
“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”
For Jason, we see how that deck is stacked against him when we learn that he left the army on poor terms – so bad that he can’t even get a loan! This is just speculation here, but maybe he wouldn’t be trying to rob people if he was able to do something normal and boring with a legitimate loan, like starting his own business. That’s a good thing for us, though, lest this turn into Grand Theft Entrepreneur (okay wait, that game might kinda slap actually).
In any case, being ex-military has presumably left Jason with a lot of deadly combat training without much to do with it. Idle hands being the devil’s plaything, it’s no surprise that we see him in the trailer go from waxing boats to wearing night vision goggles and shooting sniper rifles, suggesting there might be a little hint of Splinter Cell in this GTA formula this time around.
We don’t learn a ton about Lucia, herself, in this trailer, but it doesn’t shy from showing her hot and steamy relationship moments with Jason – literally so in the case of a romantic shower kiss where we can see a flashing ankle monitor on Lucia’s leg, serving as a subtle reminder that, for all the ways crime pays for this duo, the law is never too far behind.
And on that note, paradise is certainly not without trouble in this story, as we see interspersed between the shots of gorgeous sunset vistas, cruising in expensive luxury cars, and a few exotic reptiles are shots of tense police chases, helicopter explosions, and Lucia in a shaky voice saying, “are we gonna be okay?” Time will tell on that one, but if one thing’s for sure, it’s gonna be a hell of a time.
Of course, I have to mention that this game is absolutely stunning. Sweat glistens, smoke billows, lizards are… lizarding. Rockstar have said that all the footage we see in the trailer was captured entirely in-game on a PS5™ console, which means it’s probably going to look just as crisp and detailed on your home setup as it does in the trailer.

The soundtrack is going to be amazing too, evidenced by the catchy original single we hear throughout the trailer, “Flower in a Hurricane” by Justice and featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. There are many more famous artists who have leant their talents to GTA 6, including Travis Scott, Yung Lean, Future, Metro Boomin, and even Keith Richards.
If you want to make sure you’re hearing the killer new tracks on the GTA 6 soundtrack like the artist intended, you’re going to need a gaming headset that cares about audio quality, like the Stealth™ Pro II Wireless Gaming Headset from Turtle Beach. The Stealth™ Pro II is certified for high-resolution wireless and wired audio, features 60mm Eclipse™ dual drivers that deliver powerful bass and stunning audio detail, and fully immerses you in the game with 3D audio. With the Stealth™ Pro II, you’ll be so lost in the world of Leonida that you’ll forget it’s not even a real place. Which is probably a good thing, since it looks like a lot of things tend to explode there.
