INFINITY WARD ‘GOES DARK’ WITH MODERN WARFARE 2 TEASER AHEAD OF IMMINENT REVEAL
April 25, 2022
Infinity Ward has ‘gone dark’ on social media last Friday and it looks as though the developer is set to imminently reveal its sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
The Activision studio’s social media profile picture and header images have all changed to a near all-black image.
However on closed inspection and when enhanced slightly, the images appear to reveal the faint silhouette of Call of Duty’s fan favourite character Ghost, who as some might know first appeared in the original 2009 Modern Warfare 2 game.
Earlier this year Activision confirmed that the annual Call of Duty game for 2022 would be a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot. Although, details about the game itself have not been officially confirmed so far.
VGC reports that the Modern Warfare 2 campaign will centre around the drug war against Columbian cartels. According to the site, sources have suggested to them that the single-player story will be “a grittier take on Modern Warfare 2019’s campaign”.
Likewise, VGC suggests the game will have “more close-quarters combat, tricky decision making, and the classic Call of Duty set-piece moments” which sound like the usual fare for a CoD release.
So far Infinity Ward has yet to say when they’ll reveal more, but we might already have a clue thanks to one prominent leaker.
Earlier this month reputable Call of Duty source RalphsValve seemed to suggest that something significant would happen on 30 April.
Although the leaker did later add that the full reveal for Modern Warfare 2 wouldn’t take place until May.
Outside of Modern Warfare 2, it’s also been rumoured that Activision wants to remaster some of its older Call of Duty games to help fill the void as the company looks to move away from an annual release cycle.
Writing on Twitter leaker RalphsValve told fans: “Activision are reportedly considering releasing Remastered Call of Duty titles repurposed for newer consoles to fill out the empty space between Premium Call of Duty titles. World at War, Call of Duty 1 & 2 – backwards compatibility for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered are currently what’s in conversation.”
In relation to other titles from CoD’s history, RalphsValve explained that “Everything else was described by an associate as ‘complicated'”.
