GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: SHOULD YOU RELEASE THE PRISONER?

Guardians of the Galaxy: Should You Release the Prisoner?

August 4, 2022

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the best games to release in 2021 and whilst it enjoyed strong reviews, Square-Enix has suggested that sales of the game “undershot initial expectations”.

But thanks to strong word of mouth, several Bafta nominations, and the game’s recent arrival on services like Xbox Games Pass and PS Plus Extra, there’s arguably never been a better time to download and try out Eidos-Montréal’s latest outing. We’d certainly love to see the developer given another shot at a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel having now been purchased by the Embracer Group in 2022.

For now, though, we imagine you’re curious to know what happens if you decide to release the Nova Corp Prisoner in Chapter 5 of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. No problem, we have a guide for that just below, so read on for everything you need to know.

What happens if you free the Nova Corp prisoner?

Chapter 5 of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is called ‘Due or Die’ and sees the team heading to the Nova Corps outpost known as the Rock to pay off their fine only to find it completely abandoned.

Whilst exploring the Rock, you’ll eventually stumble upon a lone prisoner, who has been left in his cell, imploring the Guardians for help to escape.

First up, whilst there will be an immediate impact from your decision to release the Nova Corp prisoner, you can make your choice knowing that regardless of what you decide, it will have no implication on the wider story further down the line. So relax, it’s more of a nice easter egg to enjoy rather than anything serious you need to think about.

Speaking of which, the Prisoner is not just any generic character thrown into a cell, it’s actually Jack Flag, a lesser-known Marvel character who first appeared in Captain America #434 in 1994. In the comics, he’s been a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, but as players will find out, his experience in the game is slightly less positive.

If you choose to press the button releasing the prisoner his cell will start moving, you’ll catch a few more glimpses of him later in the chapter, before eventually spotting his cell floating off into space.
