GTA ONLINE SMUGGLER TRAIL EVENT: HOW TO START, AND LOCATIONS
August 23, 2022
Following the successful release of GTA Online The Criminal Enterprises update Rockstar has added two brand new random events into the game.
The random first event involves a Smuggler Plan that issues a distress call over Los Santos and then crashes, whilst the second random event involves flares billowing smoke up into the sky leading to a Smuggler Cache.
Both random events offer the opportunity of new rewards and sometimes some RP too. So if you spot either of these random events, it’s worth investigating.
On this page we’re taking a more in-depth look at the Smuggler Cache random event and if you read on you’ll find everything you need to know.
How To Start The Smuggler Trail Event In GTA Online
Although the Smuggler Cache technically exists as a random event within GTA Online there are still a few hard and fast rules which will help you understand how to start the event itself.
Firstly, the Smuggler Cache event is available in any type of session and doesn’t require any additional players to be triggered.
Likewise, players will need to be in a session for a period of time before the random event can take place. In the case of the Smuggler Cache, players need to have been in a session for a minimum of 20 minutes.
After you’ve been in a session for 20 minutes you should be able to encounter the first flare billowing smoke up into the sky. You’ll need to investigate and follow the trail before you can find the smuggler caches in a remote area of Southern San Andreas.
Just to make things a bit more complicated, there are 5 possible locations in which the flare events can be found and started. Each of these will have 3 different trails you’ll have to follow, which are randomly generated by the game once you find the first flare.
Where To Find Smuggler Trail Flare Locations
As mentioned, there are 5 possible locations where you can begin the Flare random event which eventually leads to the Smuggler Cache. The five locations are listed below (you can also see some on the video further down):
- Vinewood Hills (Los Santos)
- Great Chaparral (Los Santos)
- Chiliad M.S.W. (Blaine County)
- Mount Gordo (Blaine County)
- El Gordo Lighthouse (Blaine County)
The flare will appear as a blue dot on the radar and you should be able to spot a yellow flare of smoke. Follow the trail and you’ll be rewarded with $25,000 and 2000 RP.
