Cyberpunk 2077 update 1.5 was more or less a soft relaunch for the trouble game from CD Projekt Red. Of all the updates we’ve seen for the game, this was by far the biggest of the bunch, with the developer fixing and tweaking almost everything. That’s not an exaggeration by the way, whilst this might have been billed as the ‘next-gen update’ for the game, the list of fixes, tweaks, and additions was enormous. In fact, the patch notes didn’t even include every change the developer made. Despite this impressive and exhaustive amount of upgrades, you can be sure that players and fans of Cyberpunk 2077 will want to know what’s coming next.
So read on, here’s everything we know about Cyberpunk 2077 Update 1.6.

September 6, 2022 - 1.6 News today? |
Today is the day when we should learn more about what CDPR has planned for Cyberpunk 2077, but it seems we already know one feature that won’t be announced. The game’s Senior Community Manager responded to one fan to confirm that whilst the team has “quite a few cool things” to show, NewGame+ will not be one of them.
Elaborating on the decision further, Lead Level Designer Miles Tost explained in a series of tweets why it’s not quite so simple to add NG+ into the game.
Although there’s no NG+ we still can’t wait to see what else CDPR have in store for fans. Make sure you tune in at 5 PM CEST on twitch.tv/cdprojektred to watch. |

September 2, 2022 - 1.6 Update Imminent? |
Note - CDPR has now formally announced a new special episode of Night City Wire for next tuesday. "We will talk about our upcoming anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and what's next for Cyberpunk 2077" It surely means we'll get our first official details on the 1.6 update for the game. See you on Tuesday, September 6th at 5 PM CEST - twitch.tv/cdprojektred
Players have noticed that the latest updates for the game on Steam include an update for GeForce now, and as pointed out by the community, the last time this happened CDPR dropped the new update within a matter of days. So could we finally be about to see the release of the game’s long-overdue 1.6 update? We imagine we could hear some news early next week if we’re lucky – Stay tuned! |
August 26, 2022 - A great big no it seems |
The Cyberpunk 2077 stream earlier this week was a bust, without so much of a tease of what’s to come with the game. In fact the stream started with the team saying that fans could send ‘all the questions about the expansion’ to them, but they “weren’t talking about it”. Ho hum. |
August 24, 2022 - Cyberpunk Stream Today |
Could we finally get some news on where the game is headed in the next few months? |
August 17, 2022 - Big sigh |
No sign of any updates, patches or expansions. We’re still harbouring hope for something from the team, but who knows at this point. For now, enjoy this video from Open World Games on YouTube. |
July 8, 2022 - More QA Testing |
It’s been 143 days since the release of Cyberpunk 2077 Update 1.5. Or 4 months/20 weeks if you want to put it a different way. Back in April CDPR President Adam Kicińsk suggested the 1.6 update would be out ‘in the coming months’ so hopefully, we don’t have too much longer to wait before it eventually arrives. Keep in mind, GTA Online releases a big content update every 6 to 7 months. What is worth noting is that the team are once again heavily updating the game’s QA branch (see below), and it’s the first time since the last update some 2 months ago. Fingers crossed we won’t be waiting too much longer for the next sizeable update. Personally, we think it might release towards the end of August. |
June 10, 2022 - Xbox Showcase This Sunday |
In April Microsoft announced plans to host an E3-style Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on Sunday, June 12. “This show will feature amazing titles coming from Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and our partners around the world,” it said. Will we get our first look at the next big update to Cyberpunk 2077? It wouldn’t surprise us given Microsoft’s connection to the game and the marketing deal for the game previously. Fingers crossed we’ll get to see some more of what’s to come next. |
May 26, 2022 - First Cyberpunk 2077 DLC appears to leak |
Dialogue from Cyberpunk’s first expansion appears to have leaked, outlining the main quest. The DLC will reportedly explore new areas of Night City and take players to the Combat Zone, which was previously inaccessible area of the Pacifica region. For the time being it has only been seen in the art book for the game. This is a breaking story. But VGC has all the details. |
May 16, 2022 - Testing is underway... |
It’s been 90 days since the release of Cyberpunk 2077 Update 1.5 and it doesn’t look as though we’re any closer to seeing the 1.6 update. As we noted previously in April, CDPR President Adam Kicińsk suggested 1.6 would be out ‘in the coming months’ so it might not see a sniff of anything for some time, perhaps towards the end of the Summer. That being said we know the teams are still hard at work on updates, with numerous patches being released on steam for QA testing (see below). So who knows, maybe they’ll have something coming sooner rather than later. |
April 19, 2022 - Next update confirmed on CDPR financial call |
As part of CD Projekt Red’s latest financial call, President and Joint CEO Adam Kicińsk revealed a small tidbit about the next major update to Cyberpunk 2077, telling investors: “As mentioned we’ve recently released a new set of improvements for Cyberpunk 2077, and we are also working on the next update, 1.6 which will be out in the coming months. Afterwards, support for Cyberpunk will continue, but our focus will gradually shift to new exciting endeavors in both Cyberpunk and The Witcher franchises.” |
March 21, 2022 - CDPR are moving onto The Witcher 4 | For those who don’t know, CD Projekt Red has announced that a new game in The Witcher series is in development. Whilst not specifically titled ‘The Witcher 4’ we do know that this new entry in the Witcher Saga will use Unreal Engine 5, rather than the company’s proprietary REDengine. Despite this change in development, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that all future updates and DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 will continue to use REDengine. Good to know! |

When is the next Cyberpunk 2077 update coming?
At the time of writing, there is no confirmed Cyberpunk 2077 Update 1.6 Release Date, lets’s get that out the way first and foremost. That’s because CD Projekt RED has not confirmed an official release date for Cyberpunk’s next major update.
That being said, we would imagine that the next major update for Cyberpunk 2077 will likely be some time given the sheer size and scope of the 1.5 update.
The developers might also prefer to bide their time. After several months of releasing smaller patches, it’s noticeable that CD Projekt RED opted to skip the release of Cyberpunk 2077 Update 1.4. This meant the time between 1.3 and 1.5 was roughly 5 months and if anything made the 1.5 update feel even more sizeable.
Personally, we don’t think we’ll see the next update for some time but it’s plausible that the developer could release some smaller hotfixes in the meantime to address any smaller bugs or gameplay tweaks.
You can be sure we’ll update this page when we get more info.
What features could be coming in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 1.6?
Whilst Cyberpunk 2077 update 1.5 was sensational for the game, there’s no question that the impact of a rocky launch has put the game quite far behind. Yes, the 1.5 Update might have trebled the playerbase on steam to around 37,000 players, but it was still a tiny proportion compared to when the game first launched, which was closer to 800,000 players. Whilst we don’t anticipate that any update a year after release will generate the same explosion of players, it does highlight one of the biggest problems as the developer has played catch up on its original roadmap. There’s still no new content
Update 1.5 still feels like a cosmetic upgrade, with most additions coming in the form of a couple of new weapons in Wilson’s shop, new apartments, a few new customisation options (for both your character’s appearance and your apartment), but realistically, it’s very surface level.
Hopefully, future updates will bring some more substantial changes or expansions to the game, like new missions, a New Game Plus mode, a proper Transmog system, and many more reasons to get players to jump back in short of ‘we fixed the bugs and it looks a lot nicer now’.
That’s everything you need to know about the next update for Cyberpunk 2077, but as soon as we learn more about what’s coming, we’ll be sure to update this page.
