THE BEST FORTNITE CROSSOVERS

 February 25, 2020

From its inception, Fortnite has taken center stage as one of the most popular “Battle Royale” games ever made. In addition to various modes and an ever-changing map, Fortnite boasts regular crossover events that infuse elements of pop culture with unique items and gameplay.

With almost three years having passed since the release of Fortnite, and new crossover events being added all the time, we thought it’d be fun to take a look back at some of the best Fortnite crossovers so far!

Fortnite x John Wick

In celebration of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Epic Games unveiled a new promotional event which included an exclusive, highly sought after item pack. In the pack, Fortnite offered players a skin that made their character resemble the Boogeyman himself, John Wick.

Well, at least one that was more official than the Reaper skin from Fortnite’s third season which looked a lot like John Wick, but was never intended to be John Wick. Other fun elements to the Fortnite x John Wick crossover event include a Limited Time Mode called Wick’s Bounty.

Encapsulating the spirit of the John Wick hitman versus hitman universe, Wick’s Bounty had Fortnite players eliminate opponents and accrue coin rewards, all while trying to avoid becoming the highest value target themselves. It was a small event compared to other Fortnite crossovers, but the Limited Time Mode and special John Wick skin makes it more than memorable enough for inclusion on this list!

Fortnite x Batman

In September of 2019, DC fans rejoiced at the reveal of a Batman crossover event in celebration of Batman’s 80th anniversary. During the event, Fortnite players could get not one but two different Batman skins (the Batman Comic Book Outfit and the Dark Knight Movie Outfit) as part of the Batman Caped Crusader Pack.

The Item Shop also sold a separate Catwoman Outfit to round everything out. For those looking to save their V-Bucks, free rewards were attainable through the event’s heroic Challenges which included items like the Catwing Glider.

In the Fortnite map itself, Tilted Towers underwent a pretty significant transformation thanks to a Rift Zone, allowing it to appear as Gotham City for the duration of the event. Adding to the fun of swooping around Gotham City came the introduction of two items: the Explosive Batarang and the Batman Grapnel Gun.

There was real functionality to these Batman-themed items as you could literally use the Batman Grapnel Gun to grapple your way through Gotham City. Overall, the Batman crossover event was one of the more extensive events in Fortnite and is noteworthy not only for its Gotham City transformation of Tilted Towers, but also the sheer amount of items and goodies that players could acquire.

Fortnite x Star Wars

A look at the Kylo Ren skin from the Fortnite x Star Wars event.

Next, we have two separate crossover events for Star Wars that debuted back-to-back. The first one from November of 2019 served as part of a promotion for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Adding to this, anyone who purchased Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on the Epic Games store during the event period received a free Imperial Stormtrooper skin in Fortnite.

The option to purchase this outfit from the Item Shop was also available. Following the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order phase, the event morphed into a way to promote Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker in December. The second phase of the crossover event saw the addition of a Kylo Ren outfit to the Item Shop as well as an outfit set for Zorii Bliss.

That said, the biggest bonuses to the Star Wars event were arguably the themed Challenges. You could fight with Storm Troopers in various areas around the map, and you even had the ability to pick up lightsabers and use them as melee weapons!

Fortnite x Marvel

Thanos from the Fortnite x Marvel event, including the Infinity Gauntlet from Infinity War and Endgame.

For this crossover we’re including two separate Marvel-related events – Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. First, the Infinity War event that debuted in 2018 was the first of its kind and served as a way to promote Avengers: Infinity War. Attracting Fortnite players to the event was the Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup which saw players fighting over the Infinity Gauntlet.

It also gave those who equipped the Infinity Gauntlet the ability to become Thanos. As Thanos, you then had to fend off other Fortnite players looking to bring you down. To help non-Thanos players out, the Limited Time Mashup offered only Rare, Epic, and Legendary weapons.

With its generally fair balance and crazy fun matches, the Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup remains one of the best LTMs from a crossover event. Following the success of the Infinity War event, Epic Games decided to revisit the idea of a Marvel crossover for Avengers: Endgame in April of 2019.

Like Infinity War, the Fortnite crossover served as a way to promote Avengers: Endgame. During the event, players could buy exclusive skins like the Black Widow Outfit and earn cool rewards like the Avengers Quinjet Glider. A fun map activity was also made available where you could track down all six Infinity Stones and use them to defeat Thanos.

While these two Marvel crossovers may be our personal favorites, there’s one other event that’s also worth mentioning…

Fortnite x Marshmello

The Fortnite x Marshmello crossover event from February of 2019 wasn’t the biggest in terms of content – especially when compared to the Batman or Marvel events. However, it remains one of the most unique examples of a Fortnite crossover to date.

First, an exclusive Marshmello outfit set was made available in Fortnite complete with a matching glider and emote. To further complement the set, a set of Challenges were available that gave players the chance to grab a few other goodies, like a matching pickaxe, for free.

Marshmello also released exclusive Fortnite x Marshmello merch to his store for those looking for something physical to wear outside of the game. While the crossover was undoubtedly appealing to Marshmello fans, the event attracted global interest thanks to a massive Limited-Time Mode called Showtime.

With this LTM, players were invited to attend a free Marshmello concert online inside Fortnite’s Pleasant Park area. To ensure everyone had fun, Epic Games temporarily disabled the ability to use weapons, giving the event a nice sense of community as everyone danced alongside one another.

The 10-minute digital concert was also viewed by over 10.7 million players globally, making it the game’s biggest event at that time.

While the Fortnite crossover events listed above are all fantastic, we’re aware that they don’t cover every single event that has occurred during the game’s run. Because of this, we’re hoping that you share your personal all-time favorite Fortnite events with us as well!
